Part-Time Kennel Attendant

(Open 03/2022)

Looking for a student to work after school hours, weekends, & some holidays.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Feed, walk, and provide daily care of boarding and hospitalized pets

- Record keeping and documentation of pets in our care

- Clean and disinfect cages, runs, food bowls, water bowls, and litter boxes

- Utilize washer and dryer to clean laundry

- Bathe boarding pets before they go home

- Administer medications as directed by veterinarian

- Attention to detail is a must.  Recognize and report any abnormalities observed including  

  changes in urination/bowel movement or eating habits  

- Sweep and mop kennel, treatment room, and surgical suite

- Pet waste cleanup in yard

- Empty garbage cans

- Assist veterinarians and technicians utilizing proper animal restraint techniques

- Ability to lift and carry over 40lbs

Highland Animal Hospital is a 2.5 doctor practice with a support staff of 23 including 4 technicians. We are a full-service veterinary medical facility, located in Highland, Indiana just a 25 minute drive to The Dunes National Lakeshore and a 40 minute drive to the Chicago LoopWe primarily provide care for dogs and cats. If you have an interest in exotic and/or avian medicine there is an established clientele that would be yours to care for if you desire. Our hospital is equipped with IDEXX in-house laboratory equipment, surgical laser, digital radiology, dental radiology, Ezyvet Software, tonometry, blood pressure unit, and surgical suite.

One of our full time veterinarians is relocating to Colorado so their spouse can pursue a job opportunity. We are seeking a full time veterinarian to fill that vacancy. A veterinarian with experience is preferred, but a new graduate would definitely be welcomed.

Because we do no retail sales, the highly professional and experienced staff are concerned strictly with the care of the pets and the concerns of their owners. Roughly half of the staff has been with us for more than 15 years. They work very hard. We strive to offer excellence in veterinary care for Highland, Northwest Indiana, and the Chicagoland area.

Employment Sign On Bonus - $10,000

Salary: $100,000 - $135,000

Payscale is based on a commission greater than 25% of gross production with a generous baseline salary for a starting doctor.


(FILLED) Full-Time Registered or Experienced Veterinary Technician

We are seeking a Full-Time Registered or Experienced Veterinary Technician.  Our office is open Monday - Friday 8am-6pm and Saturday 7:30am-12pm.  Applicant should be flexible with scheduling.  Applicant must be able to perform all aspects of veterinary medicine independently with little supervision.  Experience in exotic animal care is a plus. Our hospital utilizes DVMAX Veterinary Health Management Software.  We offer in house laboratory services, digital radiology, and dental radiology.

Benefits include competitive pay (based on experience), health insurance, paid holidays, and paid vacation.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  - Proper animal handling and restraint

  - Venipuncture and IV catheter placement

  - Anesthesia dosage calculations, induction of anesthesia, and monitoring

  - Assist veterinarian in surgery

  - Dispense and administer oral, topical, and injectable medication as prescribed by veterinarian

  - Accurately acquire images using digital radiography

  - Perform dental procedures under supervision of veterinarian

  - Perform in house blood/urine analysis using IDEXX analyzers

  - Prepare and read fecal floatations, ear cytologies, and skin cytologies

  - Enter medical history and charges into computer software (DVMAX)

  - Educate clients and administer post-operative release instructions

  - Cleaning and stocking treatment room and surgical suite

  - Must be self-motivated and able to work well with others

  - Must be compassionate and professional with our patients and their owners

  - One year of experience or more preferred
